Your Restorative “Third Space”

We believe in ambition, making a positive impact and expanding to meet our edges.

We also believe that rest, connection with neighbors, and beautiful spaces to tend to the brain and body are required to temper the pace and demands of modern life.

We know D.C. life is not for the faint of heart, and that many of us experience struggles and challenges we feel unprepared or ill-equipped to face. That’s why EXPANDED isn’t just a therapy space, but a wellness house designed around everything we believe in.

This page contains our WELLNESS HOUSE events and our COMMUNITY EVENTS, always designed with our neighbors’ needs in mind. As our community events and in-house offerings are ever-changing, we recommend bookmarking this page and checking back monthly. Or, follow us on INSTAGRAM for updates.

The EXPANDED Class

Part Meditation.

Part Movement.

Part Journey.

The EXPANDED Class goes beyond traditional meditation and relaxation practices— our offerings are designed to help you explore and engage with your inner world.

It’s a deliberate middle ground:

more personalized and focused than traditional meditation classes, yet more accessible than the intensive individual therapeutic work offered at our wellness house

Drawing on Gianna’s background in behavior analysis, neuroscience, Eastern contemplative practices, and expanded states of consciousness, these sessions bridge science and spirituality in a way that feels both grounded and deeply experiential.

A key differentiator is Gianna’s experience working with theta brainwave states—the liminal spaces between wakefulness and sleep where the mind becomes highly receptive to imagery and guided insight. Rather than leaving these states to chance, sessions are intentionally structured to access and work within them, allowing for deeper pattern recognition, reframing, and internal shifts that extend beyond temporary relaxation.

Classes are intentionally capped at four people, creating a highly attuned environment where each individual is seen, guided, and supported in real time. This is not a one-size-fits-all meditation—each session adapts to the needs, patterns, and nervous systems in the room.

It’s active, responsive, and precise.

The result is a practice with direction, depth, and clear intention—one that meets you where you are, and takes you meaningfully further.

Community Events

5/12: Sound Journey @ City Tavern

Step into a deeply restorative and special offering designed to calm the mind, reset the nervous system, and reconnect you with a sense of clarity and joy.

Led by Gianna Biscontini—founder of Expanded Modern Health and psychedelic therapist—this immersive experience weaves together guided breathwork, theta-state meditation, and a live Soundbath by Dante Baker—all unfolding simultaneously.

As you’re guided into theta brainwave states, the mind becomes more receptive and allows for deeper emotional processing, insight, and access to what sits beneath the surface of everyday thinking. Rather than experiencing a meditation and Soundbath separately, the sound is interwoven throughout the journey, helping you drop in more quickly and go significantly deeper.

This layered approach enhances the entire experience—supporting a more profound nervous system reset, stronger integration, and a lasting sense of clarity and lightness.

This is more than relaxation—it’s a space to release mental clutter, reconnect with yourself, and return feeling more present, clear, and aligned.

Doors open at 7:30pm and the experience will begin promptly at 7:45pm. Dress comfortably and bring a water bottle. Mats, blankets, towel, and eye covers provided.

Summer Mini Retreat

June 2026

Expanded City Retreat: Nervous System Reset + Intentional Living: June 28, 2026
Sale Price: $275.00 Original Price: $450.00

Did you know that, at any given moment, your brain is filtering an extraordinary amount of information—prioritizing what feels relevant based on your experiences, patterns, and what you’ve learned to pay attention to?

This process is supported in part by the reticular activating system, which helps orient your awareness (and actions) toward what matters most.

Over time, these filters can become shaped by stress, habit, or outdated narratives—subtly influencing what you notice, what you move toward, and what you subconsciously overlook.

The encouraging reality is that these patterns are not fixed. With practiced attention, nervous system regulation, and upleveled awareness, they can begin to shift. When this happens, your behavior follows— you make choices that orient you toward your desired lifestyle instead of repeating past patterns.

In this 4-hour retreat, Gianna offers a thoughtful, integrative experience designed to help you:
• Find clarity around a meaningful personal goal or desire
• Recognize and gently rewire patterns that may be limiting your perspective or progress
• Settle into a deeply restorative, meditative state (often associated with theta brainwave activity), where insight and cognitive flexibility are more accessible
• Reorient your attention toward what you want to cultivate moving forward

Bridging principles from mindfulness, quantum physics, somatic practice, and cognitive science, this work supports a more intentional and productive relationship with both your inner wisdom and the direction of your life.

You’ll leave feeling clearer, more regulated, and confidently aligned with what’s next.
